Week 3: The Week of Tension

After gaining insight from our interview at Leica cameras, team persimmon was left with more than enough information to build off of. After Monday’s tutorial, our Tutor , gave us the greenlight to experiment and brainstorm, with different forms of extrapolating our ideas into reactive outcomes for the incubator overview. A crossroad had to be formed in order to progress further. The team has now been together for three weeks, yet at times, it seemed like politeness of first meetings/ impression was holding us back. A tension arose created from the stress of looping through the same idea, lack of progression or ideas having to be explained to the point of losing meaning.

After a long, detailed discussion, something clicked within per persimmon, which I’m very proud of. we had learned what the point of this unit was, it was a field study of what happens when two unique productive methodologies converge. we quickly understood that cause of this contention was due to the different mindsets and approaches our respective MA degrees behave in.

CCC’ heavenly introspective and calculated analysis was clashing with AI’s action research approach. Think instead of do VS. do then think upon the results.

This became so clear that immediately as a group we were able to rebound and establish what the next week would be. I thought of using this unit, as a method of learning different techniques in methodology and how it could improve my final outcome, of every project or endeavour I take on in the future.

Grimaces turned to smiles.

Persimmon Reflection Week 2

The 2nd week of Unit 2 brought further development to the ideas and agreements Team Persimmon constructed upon meeting. We worked efficiently through the reading and presentation; my partner, Getian, really shined this week as she both presented a detailed map in Keynote describing the information given in the coffee podcast, as well as finding our workplace for where we would conduct our interview.

My attempts at contacting stakeholders were unsuccessful, as the timing was too short of notice.

Renz Andres was our stakeholder, a photographer and manager at Leica, Mayfair. We conducted a nearly 3-hour discussion that deconstructed his work and personal life. Andres provided my team insight into the work culture he experiences on Bond Street, the method to the madness of balancing it all, and expressed his deep admiration for photography.

Had we found our jack? At times, yes. Renz spoke about the strength of his versatile portfolio, which paralleled the Leica store itself, featuring a wide-scale product range from cameras to projectors. Was it a coincidence that his personal work style mirrored the versatility of the product range and the store itself?

To work at the flagship store, you must be a fan of Leica, the art form itself, a gallery host, technician, and customer relations adviser. Were these the traits of the jack we envisioned, or are financial limitations found in capitalism responsible for overworked employees—those who have been forced into learning a wide skill set?

I look forward to releasing the recorded audio of our discussion as it can be considered a podcast due to its length.

Persimmon Group Reflection #1

Week 1 reflection: Unit 2 has begun, its start did not translate as smooth as probably intended however the unit seems excited. As an avid enthusiast of futurism “the future of work” seems like a topic of research i would be intrigued in even outside of academic studies. Collaborating with MA CCC, has introduced a new school of thought into the typical discussions in which I’ve gotten used to in MA AI. The familiar voice now speak about racial inequalities, gender bias’s and other historical or contemporary social problems. I feel enthusiastic to receive an heavier academic side to my MA program.

February 15th – After brain storming with team persimmon perched on floor 3 of granary square, we discussed the future, the renaissance man, eudaemonia and more. i feel ready to continue our discussion and work towards a project with the aim to disrupt the status quo of modern day work

AUDIO VISUALISER USING PERLIN NOISE ALGORITHM

Audio Visualizer using a Perlin Noise Algorithm. Coded fully by me in Processing 4.3

The goal of this visualiser was to demonstrate how the use of a data algorithm (perlin noise) could be applied to different disciplines. The same algorithm used in the previous rendered environment is used here to create an audio visualiser. The visualiser takes in any .mp3 file and exports a beautiful rhythmic pattern of reactive ellipses. the algorithm removes outliers in the audios noise frequency to create a wave of visually digestible sound. Link to full clip below:

How else can Perlin noise or other algorithms be used to create in different design mediums?

POP-UP SHOWCASE February 5th

Perlin Habitat

The environment above was created using the CGI software “Houdini”, its a procedural generation software that i chose to use as it allows for specific algorithms to be applied. The algorithm used to create the curveambient space is Perlin Noise. this algorithm is used to smoothen out outliers in noise or data. Using perlin noise in a generated enviroment always us apply feng-shui esque principals of psycho-geography.  My original intention was to create this space for the use of Virtual reality but unfortunately I did not have enough time to integrate the vr kit successfully. I chose to proceed with the intervention by printing out stills of the renders included above and asking people:

HOW DO THESE SPACES MAKE YOU FEEL?
